Principal News
The year is now well underway and students should be establishing their routines for study and homework. Routines need to be flexible enough to accommodate the events that normally occur such as family birthdays. The routines should prioritise homework, but also allow for working on assignments steadily over time and for advanced revision for assessment at the end of term. We recommend that ATAR students would need to study a total of 15 hours per week at this time. They might need more when exam time approaches. When students find it difficult to settle down to study in the home environment, they should consider taking advantage of the College library.
Meet the Teachers BBQ and Parent Engagement Session
It was wonderful to see many families attend our recent Meet the Teachers BBQ. This was an enjoyable evening where parents, students and staff mingled with each other in a relaxed setting. Thank you to all those who came along and took this opportunity to introduce themselves to our college staff.
Aquatics Carnival
Our 2024 Aquatics Carnival was another successful event for the College. There was great participation from the students and plenty of House spirit. Thank you to Chad Buckby and all the staff involved in making this day such a success. Congratulations Argos on being the overall winning House on the day! It was the perfect way to allow both campuses to come together as one College.
Congratulations also to Chad Buckby for his new role of Wellbeing Officer with the Qld Cowboys. We wish Chad, Nicole and family all the best with their move to Townsville.
2023 Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Awards Presentation Evening
Invitations have been emailed to those parents/guardians who have a child receiving an award at our Presentation Evening on Thursday 7 March at 6:00pm. These awards recognize the academic and diligence achievements of students in 2023. We look forward to celebrating the student’s achievements at the Senior Campus Hall, River Street, at 6:00pm this Thursday.
Year 7 2025 Enrolment Interviews
Interviews for Year 7 2025 will commence on Monday 11 March. I encourage all families who have a child wishing to enroll for Year 7 next year to lodge their online application as soon as possible. Interviews will continue into Term 2 with our first round of offers being made on Wednesday 10 July.
St Patrick’s Community
I would like to welcome Tracey James and Michal Little to our St Patrick’s staff community. Tracey joins our Inclusive Curriculum Teaching staff at the Mercy Campus and Michal will work as a Teacher Assistant at our Senior Campus. You are both very welcome at St Patrick’s.
Parent / Student Consent
Could I please remind all parents and guardians to update their child’s consents via Parent Lounge. We currently have a large number of students who do not have media consent. This prohibits us from publishing your child’s photo in our newsletter, on Facebook or any other form of media. Student’s images are only ever used with the child’s first name or initial and surname to protect their identity.
Just One Thing
Thank you to those families who have nominated their ‘Just One Thing’ and how they would like to be involved with the College throughout the year. If you have not already done so, please use the following link to register – Just One Thing. We understand that work and family commitments are of high priority, however it would be greatly appreciated if every family could volunteer their assistance at one of the events listed. Thank you for your support and involvement with St Patrick's College.
Parking
We appreciate that it is difficult finding parking space surrounding our Mercy Campus. In the interest of maintaining good relationships with our neighbours, we ask that parents and families do not park in the driveways of neighbouring residences or on their lawn outside their property. We thank you for being considerate in this matter.
