As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, we have enjoyed the many opportunities to come together and celebrate the achievements of our students throughout the year.

2024 Graduation Mass
Congratulations to our Graduating Class of 2024 who were farewelled at their Graduation Mass on Friday 15 November. It was a wonderful occasion where students, parents/guardians, staff and invited guests, gathered together to celebrate and reflect on the years of schooling completed, and to pray for hope and gratitude as they start the next chapter ahead.

Special thanks to Father Matthias for presiding over the Mass and to all those who contributed to make this such a memorable occasion.

Year 10 Semi Formal
Last Wednesday evening, our Year 10 students enjoyed coming together to celebrated the time they have shared together at St Patrick’s College, Mercy Campus. Despite the very wet conditions, a wonderful evening was enjoyed by both students and staff. Thank you to everyone involved in making the night such a memorable occasion.

Orientation Day
It was a pleasure to welcome over 200 Year 6 students from our district schools to our Mercy Campus for Orientation Day on Thursday 21 November. Our 2025 Year 11 students also attended Orientation at our Senior Campus. We extend a very warm welcome to all the new families who will join our St Patrick’s College community in 2025.

Mass of Thanksgiving
Our Year 10 students were farewelled at our Thanksgiving Mass held at the Mercy Campus last Friday. A special thank you to Father Matthias for presiding and our College choir for providing such beautiful music. Thank you to Brendan Gunning (AP Mission) and his team for all their organisation. Special awards were presented at the end of the mass and a morning tea was enjoyed by parents and guardians. Congratulations to our awardees.

On Tuesday 12 November, we gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Year 11 students, who have dedicated themselves to their studies and personal growth over the past year. Each of them has faced challenges, embraced opportunities, and demonstrated resilience in the pursuit of their goals.

On the evening, we recognised not only academic accomplishments but also the hard work, creativity, and determination that has defined their journey so far at St Patrick’s College. As they prepare to transition into the final stage of their secondary education, Year 12, we congratulate all award recipients for their Year 11 studies. We are very proud of the active involvement of our Senior SRC in leading the Youth Masses at St Patrick's Parish on Sunday nights. Their commitment to taking on this responsibility shows great leadership. Additionally, it's inspiring to see Year 9 students stepping up to support the Brekky Van initiative in the mornings, as well as their involvement in leading the Youth Mass at St Mary's. These efforts not only demonstrate their dedication but also their willingness to serve and contribute to the faith community. 

The recent Graduation Mass for Year 12 students and the Mass of Thanksgiving for Year 10 students are significant milestones. These celebrations offer a chance to reflect on the achievements and journeys of the students, and they foster a sense of unity within the Catholic community. It's heartening to know these moments were enriching and meaningful, as they allow everyone to come together and celebrate the life and spirit of the College. It's a testament to the strong community bonds within the school and church.

Confidence & Motivation
Building confidence and motivation in young people is essential for their overall wellbeing and is a key aspect of their development. These qualities can have a lasting impact on their success and happiness. Confidence helps children believe in their abilities and face challenges with a positive attitude, while motivation drives their desire to learn, explore, and achieve their goals.

Fostering these traits involves creating an environment that encourages children to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and celebrate their achievements. Confidence is built when children feel capable and valued, while motivation is fuelled by the belief that their efforts will lead to growth and success. By actively supporting both, we can help young people thrive in the academic, social, and personal areas of their life.

By offering positive reinforcement, setting realistic expectations, and celebrating their efforts, we can model a positive mindset that can go a long way in helping young people develop both confidence and motivation. Nurturing these qualities, will help them grow into self-assured individuals who believe in their ability to succeed, setting the foundation for a fulfilling future.

The Vinnies Committee is thrilled to share the incredible results of our recent Christmas Hamper Drive. Thanks to the generosity of our college community, we’ve achieved remarkable success in bringing Christmas cheer to families in our local area.

This year, we collected many hampers from both homerooms and college staff. A special shoutout to Ms Kingston's homeroom, Oraya 5, for leading the way with their outstanding contribution of nine hampers. As a reward, they have been awarded a 'Most Generous Homeroom' trophy as well as a homeroom lunch voucher.

In addition to the hampers, our college raised an incredible $500, which will also go toward supporting local families in need this Christmas. A special mention to Mrs Maunder’s and Mr Larkan’s Business classes for donating over $200 from profits raised at their student’s Business Stalls. Your kindness and generosity are a true reflection of the Christmas spirit, and we know this support will make a real difference in the lives of others.

We would also like to highlight the inspiring work of Dustin, who has been busy selling boxes of chocolates as part of his personal project. So far, Dustin has sold 95 boxes, and his goal is to reach 100. Let’s rally behind him and help him hit his target—every box sold helps make a difference!

Students who won an award received the specified dollar amount worth of art supplies kindly donated by Mr Bradley Short, of Milton Street Picture Framers. My sincere appreciation goes out to Brad for his continued support.

Finally, the library commemorated Remembrance Day to honour the fallen. 

For over 20 years Mercy Campus Interact Club has been supported by Mackay Rotary (West Mackay). We are pleased to announce that as of 2025 our Rotary Club will be run across both our Mercy and Senior Campus. The funds we have received this year will go towards community service initiatives to support those in need. Some of the projects interact has been successful in this year include - Easter Egg Drive, hot chocolate sales for the Vinnies Winter Appeal, Krispy Kreme Donut fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Support, softdrink sales at the Rotary Christmas Fair and Christmas card making for our local aged care homes. 

We thank Rotary for their support and look forward to another great year for the interact club in 2025.

Congratulations to Year 12 student, Kimberly who was awarded the Female Aerospace Scholarship at the Aerospace Industry Education Awards Ceremony. Kimberly receives a $5000 scholarship to her choice of university, tertiary or higher learning institution where she will commence an aerospace, or aerospace related course in 2025. Well done Kimberly.
